Dinner for Eight! We’re celebrating our seventh year of Dinner Fellowship for adults single, married, widowed or divorced) Sign up and we will put you into a group of eight people who will meet together for dinner once a month for six-eight months. Each person will take turns in providing a dessert, bread, salad, pasta or entree and a place for the dinner (if possible). The meals will be kept simple. The real emphasis of the evening is to meet and bond with other members of the church. There will be a short three question Bible study that requires no leader, just someone to read the questions. You’ll make friends, have fun and feel more a part of the mission and family of Messiah Lutheran Church! Sign up in September at the Welcome Center. Dinners start in October or contact Pastor Hoover

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a group of men and women who crochet and knit small blankets and shawls that are available for our members to bring to a loved one in need as a tangible symbol of our congregations love and prayers. This Ministry is a special way to reach out with love and care to others who are hurting, to comfort those in need of healing, to console those who are grieving, to bring hope to those in despair or in transition, or to provide for someone in need. As the garment is created, the recipient is known only to God as the crafter works and prays.
The creation of a prayer shawl is a blessing for not only the recipient but also the crafter. The repetitive action of knitting or crocheting helps us to slow down our racing minds and the frantic pace of our day. It provides an opportunity for contemplation and a sense of stillness in our lives. Once the pattern’s directions become a part of us, time seems to shift and distractions drift away.
Into the stillness, God can enter in and begin to help us connect with the various people who are ill, grieving, or walking a difficult road. We then pray and ask God to wrap the recipient in compassionate love. While praying for someone we do not know is a different experience than intercessory prayers offered for a specific individual, praying for a stranger helps us to learn to trust the truth that God works through us when we care for friends and strangers alike.
We welcome you to join us in this ministry.
